Here is Sylvain, I'm one of the 24 team members who unfortunately could not go to San Diego. Each year we choose 8 gladiators and send them to the Spawar for one of the most interesting competition, the AUVSI and ONR AUV Competition. Today, these wonderful gladiators are in a plane, heading to San Diego where they will have to sleep only about 2 to 3 hours a day and where the stress will be at a critical level. This year we put a lot of efforts to improve our platform and tools, many improvement have been done on our software and we managed to integrated a DVL to the navigation system. We are ready and I know that our 8 gladiators will do their best, with all the 24 others team members I wish you good luck guys !
Today the SONIA team validated its sonar navigation system. Our submarine, SONIA, succesfully homed in on a device that emits sonar pulses.

We tested our initial version of our new waypoint-based navigation using DVL and IMU positionning. Our results are very satisfactory for a first draft implementation. We got the vehicle to navigate a 2m-sided square successfully with very little error and drift.
See a screenshot of the navigation pattern realized. The following video demonstrates the pattern that was executed in a medium current river environment.
