Arrival and Preparation

The team arrived in two waves Sunday. The first one, originating from Montreal, left at 6 am local time and landed in San Diego at 10 am local time. The trip went without any problems. After renting the cars and checking in at the Sheraton Bay Tower, a small trip was made to recover the submarine and equipment stored at our contact’s house (big thank you to the contact). Meanwhile, the second wave was flying in from Italia (the other side of the world in other words). After a quite lengthy flight, they landed in Los Angeles, unrested but well. They met with the first wave who was awaiting their arrival to get them to San Diego. Overall, everyone has uneventful trips, which is pleasant once in a while.

Simon being Simon

Monday was a busy day. First, the team took time to take a hefty breakfast and plan the day. Once fueled up, the team tackled the task of assembling the submarine which is still going as this is being written (23h00), but almost done and declared watertight. The team also attended the team orientation presentation. For the connoisseur, the team did get the earliest slot for arrival. Finally, normal vacation items were bought today, such as heat shrink and a compressor. Stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime, live images of the competition are streamed here.
